We are building a network of smart retail focusing on Industry 4.0 and green economy. We bring merchant and customers together while eliminating paper receipt. No one like to keep paper receipts. They are troublesome, hard to keep/find and will fade but we still need it. Why not get an e-receipt at the shop instantly as you pay! This is my solution to you. Introducing FRECEIPTS!

With all the government effort to go green, ban plastic straws and all, we are hoping to reduce paper wastage by building an e-receipt system. We got support from GreenTech for this. Below is our booth during the IGEM 2018 for green exhibition.

Nowadays, everything is going digital, so we hope to digitize paper receipts as well. We are getting acknowledgement from Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Communications and Multimedia as well as from MDEC to go digital. We hope to support this cause to help shops go digital and online. 

The concept is simple. You go to a shop and buy something and you scan the QR code for your e-receipts. It is similar to scanning the QR code to pay. We work with the shops POS system to make it happen. Below here is my team members and we are also talking to MOF.

I have team from India as well and they are deploying the system in India. We got selected as "Top 10 Most Promising Expense Management Solutions Provider 2019".

BENEFITS

The benefits for users is to get every receipts on their phone so they can better manage their expenses. With our system, user can do budgeting and we can alert them if they overspend. Get all your receipts information in one place and search for them easily. No more finding, organising or keeping paper receipts. It will be like a Instagram but with financial planning and analytics of your spending.

For merchants, they will be able to identify their walk-in customers, do promotions, loyalty and rewards system. They may give discounts on their e-receipts as well. The best reason is saving papers and time by not having to replace a paper roll everytime it went out and managing their paper receipts for accounting. Shop owners can also keep track of their cashier for any receipt frauds as our e-receipt is connected to their customers.

We are working on several ways to sent out e-receipts as shown in our videos. We hope to make it as easy as possible for users to get their e-receipts and seamless for merchants too.

Instead of the dull black & white receipts, our e-receipts will be colourful, fun and interactive with instant feedback for easy access, bill splitting and information. It will also be connected to different loyalty cards so we don't have to carry so many around.

We hope more shops will join us so we can offer more e-receipts for our users and have better analytics. With more shops, more users and more tractions, we can bring the cost down and add more features to our system. We can also get support from government to sponsor more shops to go paperless and digital.

I have been working on this project since 2017. It's not an easy task. Originally, started by taking pictures of the receipts, scanning and uploading them. But I found out not much people want to do it as it is troublesome and still bad for the environment with no connection to shop. Then slowly, we pivot to smart retail system where shop can automatically send e-receipts directly to customer's phone. 

Then we found out some shops are actually doing it already. Some is sent by email, while some by sms. There's a problem with that. People generally dont want to give their personal information in front of strangers. Thus, we have develop a system that allow anyone to receive e-receipt without giving out any personal information. 

The next challenge is getting shops to issue e-receipts. The challenge is almost similar to asking shops to go cashless and using mobile wallet as payment. A lot of marketing dollars is spend and convincing shops is not an easy task. Fortunately, the e-wallet companies has done most of the work and the market are now more ready with this change. Currently, my job is to talk to different e-wallet companies and shops to do the integration. 

Next, is the business and government requirement/regulation. Most of the businesses and income tax department require a hardcopy paper receipt attached to submit claims, return goods and verification. However, as more places start to issue e-receipts and more people using it, we can bring this up to the government to change the law. Is a huge ambition but with all your support, we can do it together!

*The biggest risk for a shop is when they stop innovating. Look at Toys 'R' Us. Everything is going digital. Is just a matter of time before paper receipts becomes obsolete.
